Our founder, Hannah Cash, recently sat down with talented university student Matt Thomas from University of West England (UWE) for an insightful interview about the journey of building and running a small business from the ground up. 🎤✨
Matt joined YachtingLawyers for a paid summer placement in 2024 and has now secured a position when he graduates from UWE this year.
Insightful interview questions were asked, focusing on entrepreneurship, overcoming challenges, and the passion behind our company’s mission. It’s always good to reflect and inspire the next generation of leaders!
Matt told us it’s been a tricky time for graduates securing placements and full-time employment post University:
“Finding an industry placement while studying has been a challenge—one that has tested my resilience and time management skills. Balancing coursework with the demands of lengthy applications, multiple assessment stages, and tight deadlines has often felt like a race against the clock.
One of the more frustrating aspects has been receiving rejections with little or no feedback. Without insight into what went wrong, it’s difficult to know how to improve for the next opportunity. However, despite the setbacks, this process has taught me perseverance and adaptability – both invaluable skills in any career. To those going through the same struggle: keep pushing forward. Every application is a learning experience, and the right opportunity will come at the right time”.
A gentle reminder that we can all do our bit in industry to help graduates looking for work experience and offer help and guidance to give them a step when we can.
It’s important to support the next generation coming up through the ranks, as we have a lot to learn from them!
